Statement by Attorney for Doug Whitman

The following statement was issued today by David L. Anderson of Sidley Austin LLP, attorney for Douglas F. Whitman:

"Doug Whitman is innocent of the insider-trading charges that have been brought against him. Mr. Whitman traded on the basis of lawful research and analysis, not unlawfully obtained inside information. Mr. hitman did not pay any insiders or provide any personal benefit to any insiders for inside information.

"Mr. Whitman has cooperated with the government's investigation, personally providing statements, producing information through his attorneys, and repeatedly extending the statute of limitations at the government's request. The charges are based on claims made by Roomy Khan and Karl Motey, who have pled guilty to insider trading and conspiracy, and who hope to reduce their prison sentences by accusing Mr. Whitman. Their claims are false and will be proved false."
