South Africa : DIMENSION DATA launches new company WIRELESSCO [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dimension Data MEA will set up a new firm, WirelessCo (Pty Ltd), which will build and run an open access carrier-grade WiFi network. Dimension Data will hold 51% stake in WirelessCo with Multichoice owning 49%. The deal requires Competition Commission approval. To be headquartered in Johannesburg, WirelessCo will join the WiFi network assets of Dimension Data-owned WiFi provider AlwaysOn, together with the WiFi assets of MWEB WiFi. The AlwaysOn retail consumer business will carry on functioning as a separate unit. WirelessCo will employ workers of MWEB WiFi, along with AlwaysOn workforces who manage the AlwaysOn network. A ubiquitous WiFi network for South Africa, built by WirelessCo will be a step forward to a WiFi first service as a viable and cost effective alternative to traditional data communication in a mobile environment, enabling more South Africans with affordable internet access.
