Some 1,000 biggest e-shops make up 75% of online sales

(Czech News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Some 1,000 biggest eshops make up 75% of online salesPrague, Sept 28 (CTK) One thousand largest eshops account for 75 percent of the online market turnover, and the country has around 37,000 online stores, with the rate of their creation falling, according to data of the price comparison site Heureka.cz.

Turnover of online stores is projected to grow by 15 percent this year. Online sales totalled Kc70bn last year, sales of goods posted an annual rise of 16 percent to Kc50bn and sales of services were 11 percent higher at Kc20bn.

"The current trend is the reinforcing of positions of strong players and small specialised online stores," said Heureka head Tomas Braverman.

The Association for Electronic Commerce (APEK) said that the top 30 online stores constitute more than 50 percent of sales of goods.

New eshops are being created but at a smaller rate because the market is saturated. The new stores replace the old ones that were less successful, said APEK managing director Jan Vetyska.

Building an online store is easier than launching a brickandmortar store, he added.

The number of Internet shops in the Czech Republic is comparable with Great Britain.

Customers are more satisfied with eshop services in annual terms, the share of stores with Verified Customer Reviews rising to 96.6 percent, said Braverman.

Sixtyeight percent of people aged between 25 and 34 years of age report shopping online at least once a month, while people 55 and older only rarely buy goods online.
