Two days of violent protests left parts of the capital city devastated. Hundreds of Chinese business owners were living in a hastily set-up refugee camp after being burned out, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. China chartered a plane to evacuate 90 of its citizens. Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer visited the Solomons for a meeting with Rini. Economic reform is going to be central to the survival of the country, Downer said. The rioting began last week after Rini was chosen as prime minister. |
