Software companys CEO gets bail in copyrights case


KARACHI, May 08, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Additional District & Sessions Judge, South, Karachi, Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui Thursday granted bail to a software companys Chief Executive Officer in copyrights case. According to prosecution, Microsoft Corporation lodged complaint with FIA Crime Circle Karachi, alleging M/s Softwise Technology was involved in copyright violations of its software products and selling them by installing pirated software copies on machines.



A FIA team raided software companys office, confiscated large quantity of CDs, hard drives & computers with pre-installed pirated software. CEO of company, Khushnood Aftab, was arrested on April 24, 2009. A case (FIR No 17/09) US 66(a), 66(b) Copyright Ordinance 1962 RW Sections 7, 8 & 20 Prevention of Electronic Crimes Ordinance 2007 was registered against him.

Advocate Muhammad Omer Soomro for accused filed application seeking post arrest for him. He submitted applicant was implicated in false case, based on fabricated allegations. Counsel prayed to grant post arrest bail to his client. ADSJ Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui after hearing arguments granted bail in sum of Rs 200,000 to applicant.
