Softing Adopts ILS Technology's deviceWISE Framework for Establishing OPC-UA Connectivity in Industrial Automation

BOCA RATON, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- ILS Technology, LLC, an industry leader in enabling intelligence through connectivity, today announced that its deviceWISE 2.0 framework has been adopted by Softing AG for integration into its OPC-Universal Architecture (OPC-UA) Factory Gateway solution. The solution leverages Softing's leadership in technology for OPC-UA device connectivity and deviceWISE's administration, security and policy functions for industrial automation applications.

Pilot production of the solution based on the ILS Technology-Softing partnership is expected early next year. The introduction will coincide with the anticipated strong demand for OPC-UA-based products as industrial companies adopt the standard to provide universal connectivity to diverse sets of automation equipment in their manufacturing operations. The integration of the deviceWISE framework into Softing's technology is designed to help manufacturers address several industry mandates for security, policy and auditing purposes by expanding the distribution of control and data-collection functions from factory floor operations into the enterprise.

"The market adoption of the OPC-UA standard will be rapid and Softing will help companies achieve their goals for universal connectivity by offering a best-in-class edge solution that integrates deviceWISE technology," said Fred Yentz, chief operating officer of ILS Technology. "With deviceWISE embedded in Softing's OPC-UA Factory Gateway solutions, customers will have the ability to expand production-device connectivity into enterprise databases and applications to give decision makers access to real-time data for their operations. Based on this expanded access, Softing and ILS Technology will enable companies to make more intelligent decisions about their operations."

By proving its compatibility to the OPC-UA standard, deviceWISE provides tool manufacturers, system integrators, production managers and IT managers with legacy and future-proof connectivity to IT infrastructures and intelligent devices.

"Softing is pleased to partner with ILS Technology to bring advanced industrial automation solutions to market," said Jurgen Lange, responsible for the OPC business at Softing. "The company's deviceWISE framework integrates seamlessly into our OPC edge solution and offers users unprecedented connectivity between manufacturing operations and the enterprise. With this type of connectivity, our customers will be able to manage their production operations with valuable insight from the business side of their companies."

Softing supports the supplementary software technologies for simple, manufacturer-independent communication between systems and devices, such as OPC and field device tools, with its own tool kits and components.

"Manufacturers are discovering that one of the most effective ways to improve operational efficiency is to transport data from the plant floor to the enterprise in real-time," said Craig Resnick, research director, ARC Advisory Group. "However, many of these same companies are finding substantial roadblocks to seamless transportation of data between two entirely different technology sets. The OPC-UA standard resolves this issue of interoperability and Softing and ILS Technology have devised a full-featured OPC-UA solution that addresses the challenges of interoperability."

The modularity of deviceWISE 2.0's system-independent framework enables enterprises of all sizes to quickly and seamlessly adopt and adapt to new standards and technologies without disrupting operations or requiring expensive network overhauls. It enables seamless communication between intelligent devices and the enterprise, providing businesses with a detailed view of their production environment and the ability to monitor and respond to operational issues in real-time.
