SMC's New VPN Router Enables Efficient, Cost-Effective Remote Access Backed by Solid Security

IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- SMC Networks (www.smc.com) today announced the availability of the newest in its arsenal of networking products that make business more efficient for the SMB/e: the SMCBR21VPN Barricade(TM) VPN Router. The new SMCBR21VPN broadband router has a Virtual Private Network (VPN) server built in, enabling it to establish authenticated and encrypted tunnels for communication across the Internet, making it the ideal solution for remote corporate network access--whether from the branch office or a telecommuter. The new SMCBR21VPN Barricade VPN Router is available now at an MSRP of $449.99.

Used by telecommuters and branch office users who log into the corporate LAN remotely or contact other remote offices or users, the VPN ensures that the data being transmitted is moved in the most secure manner while enabling companies to keep costs down by using a public network infrastructure, such as the Internet, to carry the communication. The SMCBR21VPN VPN server gives the SMB/e the assurance that security and privacy are maintained in those remote connections across public networks at a low cost, while also ensuring that network performance remains high.

The SMCBR21VPN router's built-in VPN server allows users to create up to 50 secure VPN Tunnels that support PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) and IPSEC for the most comprehensive of VPN Technology for the IP network. A multi-function VPN, the SMCBR21VPN also provides port versatility, with load balancing WAN ports, a DMZ port and a 10/100 LAN port. And its dual WAN port load balancing capability enables data load sharing to reduce bottlenecks and increase efficiency in high-demand networks, while Dynamic VPN enables remote workers to create and delete VPN connections without the need for manual configuration on the router side.

Built with security as a priority, the SMCBR21VPN router has flexible Access Control and a robust Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall built in to protect the network from the edge, analyzing each individual data packet as it passes through to ensure that only authorized packets can access the local network, and providing a high level of security against denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.

"Complicated setup, complicated access rules and security concerns cause many businesses to shy away from setting up remote corporate network access," said Iain Kenney, SMC Networks' Director of Product Marketing. "The new SMCBR21VPN router breaks down those barriers, enabling customers to set up and maintain secure remote access connectivity easily."
