SmarTrend(R) News Watch: Google Android Moving Forward, New Updates Ahead
Jul 12, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) --
At a joint Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) T-Mobile (NYSE:DT) media event on Friday, the companies reminded the public that although Google has announced the new Chrome operating system, Android is still moving forward, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Specifying the differences between the two projects, Google vice president of engineering Andy Rubin said, "Chrome has a very Web-centric view of the world . . . There are different problems to be solved in different categories of consumer products . . . You need different technology for different solutions." Rubin added that he knew of about 15 or 20 Android models hitting the market this year, and assured that a slew of software updates are on the way. Followups to its "Cupcake" update will alphabetically continue the dessert tradition, with deliveries of "Donut," "Eclair" and "Flan" coming next.
