Sixnet Powers Highway Tunnel Projects Throughout China

BALLSTON LAKE, N.Y. --(Business Wire)--

Sixnet (News - Alert), a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, today announced that partner Beijing Omate Digital Technology Co., Ltd. is using Sixnet industrial Ethernet switches to deliver real-time highway monitoring and communication systems for tunnel projects throughout China. These systems include video monitoring, safety, traffic control and toll collection.

The highway tunnel projects are a series of long-distance tunnels, which vary in length from one to two miles, and connect China's Shuijie, Zhongdian, Yunnan, Lindian, Baoniu and Fuyan highways. Located in the mountainous regions of Chongqing, Yunnan and Shannxi, the tunnels face volatile temperature fluctuations coupled with humidity, dust and vibrations. Sixnet's rugged industrial networking solution enables Beijing Omate to reliably meet these extreme conditions while providing the advanced enterprise features required for redundancy, management and security.

"The rapid expansion and scale of the Chinese tunnel system is very impressive, covering long distances andpassing through difficult, mountainous conditions," said Liu Yunping, the general manager at Beijing Omate. "Sixnet's unique ability to combine rugged reliability with enterprise-class features makes it ideal for challenging projects like the Chongqing, Yunnan and Shannxi highway tunnels."

Sixnet's SLX series of industrial managed Ethernet switches allows Beijing Omate to provide reliable performance and fault tolerance over long highway tunnel distances through single-mode fiber optic cabling and redundant ring network configurations. The Sixnet switches also offer SNMP, RMON and web-based management, port-based VLANs and tagging and support for IGMP multicast control. This enables the highway tunnel systems to efficiently utilize network-based technology to monitor traffic patterns, inform motorists of traffic and road conditions, re-route traffic to avoid accidents and manage vehicle toll collection.

"The highway tunnels are a key part of China's expanding transportation system and growing economy," said Michael Li, managing director of Sixnet China. "Sixnet switches and Beijing Omate are providing a solution that will enable a highly intelligent, modern tunnel system which will handle thousands of vehicles every day."
