[May 25, 2013] Serial arsonist gets 7 year sentence Tweet May 25, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 49-year-old Odessa man faces seven years in state prison after he pleaded guilty on Monday to setting fire to his estranged wife's vehicle, home and restaurant over a period of several years. An Ector County 161st District Court Judge accepted Oscar Molinar Castillo's pleas to three counts of arson. A team of local investigators determined Castillo was the arsonist several years after he first set fire to the vehicle on March 18, 2004. Next, Castillo set fire to the home at 1107 Matamoras on Sept. 25, 2005. Finally, he burned Amigo's Mexican Food Restaurant, 6213 Andrews Highway, on May 24, 2010. According to newspaper records, investigators in Midland apprehended Castillo in March 2011. It was the culmination of work by investigator Tony Bass with the Ector County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. John Kondratick, a Deputy State Fire Marshal, and Detra White, an Odessa City Fire Marshal. Castillo also pleaded guilty to retaliation for threatening to have Bass "whacked" as he was being questioned. Castillo is being held in the Ector County Detention Center, pending transfer to the Texas Department of Corrections.
