Sentient Energy Appoints James Keener as Chief Executive Officer


Sentient Energy, Inc., a leading provider of advanced grid monitoring and analytics solutions for electric utilities, has announced the appointment of James A. Keener as chief executive officer. A thirty nine year energy industry veteran, Mr. Keener has served as an electric utility officer for almost two decades in both power generation and power delivery. He is a recognized leader in electric utility new technology evaluation, introduction and large scale operation. He takes over from CEO and Founder, Michael Bauer, who will assume the role of president and chief product officer.

Mr. Keener had been serving as an advisor to the Sentient Energy management team since last year. Before joining Sentient Energy, James (Jim) Keener was vice president, technical services for the Power Generation Division of NextEra Energy, Inc., where he was responsible for all technical and engineering activities associated with NextEra Energy's non-nuclear assets, worldwide. Mr. Keener began his career with NextEra Energy in 1976, and held a number of positions of increasing responsibilities within plant engineering, operations management and plant management. He also served as vice president of plant operations for all non-nuclear unregulated assets.

Mr. Keener has also served as Florida Power & Light Company's vice president of transmission & substations, and was responsible for overseeing the delivery of electricity from all generating sources to the distribution network, and to wholesale customers through FPL's transmission system.


Mr. Keener received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, a Masters degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard University.
