Sencha and CNX Partner to Revolutionize App Modernization for IBM i Applications

Sencha, the company providing a unified platform for designing, developing and testing cross-platform web applications, and CNX, an IBM (News - Alert) i software and services company, have announced a new partnership to help enterprises with legacy IBM i applications leap into web and mobile app development. Through the new partnership, organizations can take advantage of Ext JS, the most comprehensive JavaScript framework for building cross-platform web applications, and CNX's Valence Framework, which provides a rich set of IBM i-based tools that are used to interface Ext JS with IBM i server-side code written in RPG.

"There are millions of legacy B2B and B2E applications out there, and organizations need to leverage their investment, and convert them into modern web and mobile apps," said Sencha CEO Art Landro. "Sencha gives enterprise developers and IT executives access to the latest advancements in web technology with our Ext JS framework, and now through Valence, we enable companies to transform their IBM i applications into modern, cross-platform web and mobile apps that deliver a great user experience."

Through the use of web applications, line-of-business managers and IT departments can cost-effectively design and develop mission-critical applications across all devices and platforms from one code base. Sencha Ext JS web applications provide the right user experience, on the right screen, at the right time-for desktops, tablets and smartphones.

"Common approaches to IBM i modernization such as screen scraping, where users end up with a browser overlay to their green screens, don't meet the need of truly modernizing legacy applications," said CNX Co-founder Richard Milone. "With our Valence solution, we enable organizations to leverage modern development principles and robust tools to pair the rock-solid business logic of RPG with Sencha Ext JS, resulting in truly modern cross-platform web apps."

Valence is completely IBM i centric, bundling ll the features necessary to create, manage, deploy and secure applications. The included Valence Portal handles user authentication, app launches, administration, library list control and more. The Valence RPG Toolkit provides a complete set of APIs that allow RPG developers to communicate directly with the Ext JS user interface. Valence apps perform this communication without the need for external servers or emulation layers, resulting in lower costs, excellent performance and a world-class user experience.

Sencha Ext JS allows users to build data-intensive, feature-rich, cross-platform web applications. With Ext JS, users can leverage a comprehensive set of pre-tested and integrated components, including the market-leading grid. Ext JS also allows users to quickly create a standard theme and deliver the right user experience to the business on any device.
