Semtech Debuts Integrated RF, Acquisition and Processing Platform(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Semtech, a supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, has announced the SX1282, calling it the first device in a product platform of ISM-band system-on-chips (SoC) that integrates RF, acquisition and processing capabilities. The company said the part was developed in collaboration with the Hager Group SAS France, a Semtech customer and a manufacturer of energy and building control systems. The SX128x platform combines dual UHF-band ISM transceivers, a CoolRISC MCU, and a variable 10 to 16-bit ZoomingADC (analog-to-digital converter), to deliver a single-chip solution that can operate from a single 1-volt battery cell. This integration reduces BoM costs and saves board space by replacing up to three other devices. The SX1282 offers up to 300 percent longer battery life than other solutions, and has the ability to communicate on both the 400 MHz and 800 MHz ISM bands simultaneously. The device can deliver up to 6 MIPS of processing power, while drawing less than 1.3 mA of supply current. "This revolutionary technology opens a brave new world of applications because it has the intelligence and features to direct multiple home systems from a single control point - something that would have taken up to four chips previously," said Luc Palmier, General Manager, Hager Security. "There is nothing else like it on the market." "The low-voltage technology and functional integration of the SX1282 is quite an advance over previous solutions, and delivers quantum improvements to target application end-systems, such as home automation and advanced wireless consumer products," said Ronen Joury, ISM Group Manager at Semtech. "This part is also a demonstration of Semtech's industry-leading technology development capabilities, as few other companies have the technology required to build this type of device." Features of the SX1282 product family include the following: - 1-32 kB of low-power RAM - Analog sensor front-end interface - Ultra-low supply voltage range: 0.8V to 1.7V - 8-bit CoolRISC processor core w/DSP H/W acceleration; provides 6.4 MIPS at 1.3 mA - Dual-ISM transceiver operation, in UHF band - QFN package offering - 5x5mm 32-pin to 7x7mm 60-pin lead-free ((Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected])) ((Distributed on behalf of 10Meters via M2 Communications Ltd - http://www.m2.com)) ((10Meters - http://www.10meters.com)) Copyright ? 2008 Wireless News |
