[July 06, 2009] SBS Science and Technology selects Ramtron F-RAM for SSD application Tweet (Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq:RMTR) announced Monday that SBS Science and Technology Co Ltd has selected the FM22L16 4Mb F-RAM (ferroelectric random access memory) for use in a solid state disk data storage device. The company, which develops and supplies F-RAM and integrated semiconductor products, said that SBS will use the FM22L16 to store the virtual block-to-sector map for the Flash memory in the SSD, making use of the low power requirements of the F-RAM together with the fact that the F-RAM supports virtually unlimited reads and writes with low latency writes. This overcomes a limitation with pure SSD devices, as flash memory is prone to wearing out prematurely due to its limited write endurance. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
