Sanyo installs PV system in Dubai


(Gulf Industry Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sanyo, together with its solar system integrator partner Value Addition, announced it recently installed on a trial basis a 2 kWp hybrid photovoltaic system at Trakhees-Environment, Health and Safety (EHS).



Trakhees, functioning under the Ports, Customs & Freezone Corporation, combines and streamlines all licensing and permit functions within the corporation and its areas of jurisdiction. It covers commercial licensing, civil engineering, building permits and construction quality monitoring as well as environmental, health and safety issues.

The system installed, which includes Sanyo's HIT (heterojunction with intrinsic thin layer) technology panel HIP-205 NKHB1-H range in combination with a high-efficiency solar inverter from SMA Solar Germany, will be used to power the entire reception area at EHS using solar energy. Takashi Hirao, chief regional officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Sanyo Gulf FZE, handed over the system to Trakhees-EHS.


In addition to the entire reception area lighting, the photovoltaic system installed at Trakhees-EHS will power two LCD televisions at reception, the main conference room lighting and the LCD projector at the conference hall resulting in annual savings of 2,400 kWh of electricity and approximately 1,300 kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

Hirao said: "This initiative of voluntarily installing our highly advanced photovoltaic panels within Trakhees-EHS is in line with Sanyo's green innovation vision which aims to realise a clean energy society and is an extension of the efforts of our Solar Ark photovoltaic power generation facility in Japan.

"Sanyo HIT photovoltaic modules are developed using the company's proprietary technology and expertise and come with superior temperature performance characteristics specifically suited for this region. With its high energy conversion ratio, the system offers the world's highest efficiency output, and we are certain that Trakhees-EHS will soon achieve significant savings in energy." Trakhees-EHS pioneered the green building movement in this region by incorporating mandatory Green Building Regulations for new constructions.

"Sanyo believes using an advanced photovoltaic system would help Trakhees-EHS set a new benchmark for energy conservation," a company statement said.

Make-up of modules Sanyo's HIT photovoltaic modules are based on thin mono crystalline silicon wafers surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layers to deliver greater conversion efficiency, outstanding temperature characteristics and higher output power on a given roof area compared to conventional crystalline modules.

Its Solar Ark facility in Japan is considered a symbol of the company's goal of achieving a "clean energy society." Funds matching the equivalent domestic cost of the annual electricity output of the Solar Ark's solar modules are transferred to the Sanyo Environmental Fund to support various environmental conservation activities.

The Solar Ark, a unique, ark-shaped, solar photovoltaic power generation facility, offers activities to cultivate a better appreciation of solar power generation. This 315-m-wide, 37-m-tall facility is located in Gifu prefecture, in the geographical centre of Japan. Stationed at the centre of the Solar Ark is the Solar Lab, a museum of solar energy.

Hirao requested authorities to offer feed-in tariff (renewable energy payments) programmes similar to the system prevailing in western countries. This, he said, would optimise cost and constitute a greener solution as there was no usage of battery and the PV system was directly connected to the grid.
