SANS San Antonio InfoSec Training Event to Discuss Lessons Learned from the Ukrainian Power Grid Attack

BETHESDA, Md., May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the agenda for its San Antonio 2016 InfoSec training event taking place July 18-23. Included on the agenda is a bonus evening discussion detailing the attack on the Ukrainian power grid and lessons learned. The discussion will be led by Robert M. Lee who, along with the SANS ICS team, was first to reveal the malware uncovered in the network and later confirmed the cyber attack.

"The cyber attack on the Ukraine power grid was the first time we have ever seen a public case of an intentional cyber attack take down electric infrastructure. During my talk I will be detailing the entire investigation and the lessons learned that impacts a wide variety of communities from infrastructure to security operations and incident response," commented Lee, CEO of Dragos Security and lead author of the SANS FOR578: Cyber Threat Intelligence course.

SANS San Antonio will feature hands-on immersion style security training courses for InfoSec professionals at every level. For those new to the field, SANS will offer its popular SEC301: Intro to Information Security course. Highly seasoned individuals can look forward to the SEC550: Active Defense, Offensive Countermeasures and Cyber Deception course and Le's FOR578: Cyber Threat Intelligence course, and many others. Attendees will have the opportunity to test their cybersecurity skills while competing against peers during the popular NetWars Tournament.

InfoSec professionals in the Houston area will have the opportunity to learn directly from Lee during the SANS Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security Training event taking place July 25 – 30. Lee will teach the ICS515: ICS Active Defense and Incident Response course.
