Saint Francis Healthcare Announces New Partnership with JeffersonSaint Francis Healthcare is now partnering with Jefferson Outpatient Imaging, a world-class outpatient diagnostic imaging service, to provide PET/CT services to patients in the community, announced Saint Francis Healthcare's president and CEO, Brian E. Dietz, FACHE. This new partnership builds on the hospital's existing relationship with the Jefferson Health System as a member of the Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center Network. "We're so pleased to be expanding our involvement with Jefferson, because our patients and community benefit greatly from such collaborations," says Dr. Erev Tubb, chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at Saint Francis Healthcare. "As with our other Jefferson initiatives, this alliance is backed by the wealth of expertise that comes from an academic medical center as prestigious as Jefferson." It brings educational opportunities for staff and physicians, as well as access to the newest protocols associated with PET/CT. This service complements a continuum of care for the new hematology/oncology practice opened by Saint Francis Healthcare on May 1 and led by Dr. Tubb, chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at Saint Francis Healthcare.
Starting July 9, Saint Francis Healthcare began offering mobile PET/CT on Thursdays at the hospital. "This is more convenient for our patients who often want to seek medical care locally rather than travel to other communities," adds Carla Lafferty, director of Radiology and Imaging. "Scheduling is flexible with same-day, add-on availability for physician and patient convenience." "The mobile PET/CT combines two imaging modalities into one and is commonly used to assist physicians in more accurately diagnosing and identifying cancer and brain disorders," explains Dr. Michael Polnerow, vice president and chief medical officer at Saint Francis Healthcare. "The Siemens (News - Alert) high-resolution scanner can detect lesions as small as 5 mm and offers features to enhance patient comfort during the exam. Patients further benefit from the shorter scan times of the Siemens technology." PET, or Positron Emission Tomography, and CT, Computed Tomography, are both advanced imaging tools that physicians use to pinpoint disease states in the body. The PET scan demonstrates the biological function of the body often before anatomical changes take place, while the CT scan provides information about the body's anatomy such as size, shape and location.
