Sep 07, 2009 (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Special Alert SA-158-2009 September 4, 2009 TO: - CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (also of interest to Security Officer) - SUBJECT: - Counterfeit Official Checks - Summary: - Counterfeit official checks bearing the name GMAC Bank, Horsham, Pennsylvania, are reportedly in circulation. - Ally Bank, Midvale, Utah, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit official checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation.



The counterfeit items display the routing number 031176136, which is assigned to Ally Bank. The words "OFFICIAL CHECK" appear in the lower-left corner under "GMAC Bank." The name "GMAC Bank" and location appear in the top-left corner as "GMAC Bank, P.O. Box 951, Horsham, PA 19044." Authentic checks display the routing number 124003116, which is assigned to Ally Bank. The checks have a blue background. The words "OFFICIAL CHECK" are top-centered and "Ally Bank" is displayed in the top-left corner.

Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic check (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
