RUSSIA AGAINST A 'NUCLEAR' IRAN - KREMLIN SOURCE

(Interfax News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Russia reiterates its support for the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, a Kremlin source told Interfax.

"We are categorically opposed to the spread of weapons of mass destruction," the source said, commenting on the impasse over Iran's nuclear program.

Russia "does not want Iran to have any technical knowledge that would allow it to become a nuclear power," he said.

The source categorically rejected a military solution to the Iranian problem. "Any military scenario is totally unacceptable to us," he said.

The situation surrounding Iran is likely to be addressed during a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Tomsk on April 26-27, the source said.
