Meru Wireless LANs Provide Reliability, Security Critical to Demanding
Retail Environments
NRF Annual Convention 2008
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wireless LAN provider Meru Networks
has joined the PCI Security Vendor Alliance, the group chartered with
providing services and best-practices guidance to retailers and other
businesses required to conform to the PCI (Payment Card Industry) Data
Security Standard.
Meru will exhibit this week at the National Retail Federation's 97th
Annual Convention and Expo at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City,
booth #2972.
Membership in the Alliance "will help Meru work with our growing base
of retail customers to meet the compliance requirements directly
related to wireless networking, and to ensure data integrity and
secure, reliable data transmission," said Rachna Ahlawat, Meru's vice
president of strategic marketing.
Meru's award-winning Air Traffic Control technology provides the
performance, reliability and security that are critical in the most
demanding supply-chain environments, from the warehouse to the point of
sale. Rather than the "micro cell" approach of legacy wireless LAN
designs- which assign different channels to adjacent cells of the
network- Meru's unique "virtual cell" approach automatically selects a
single channel for use enterprise-wide, maximizing network performance
and quality of service while accelerating and simplifying deployments.
Meru's cost-effective solutions let customers run a wide variety of
applications wirelessly, including VoWiFi, streaming video for
security, and point-of-sale applications; and support RFID, location
tracking and security surveillance.
With Meru zero-handoff technology, because mobile devices need not
switch channels when roaming, users and applications have a guaranteed,
uninterrupted connection- unlike with micro cell WLANs, where
connections and sessions are established and torn down with every roam.
In addition, because mobile devices on a Meru WLAN do not need to
continuously scan for "better" networks or reauthenticate while
roaming, their battery life is extended significantly. Meru delivers
these benefits with no proprietary client-side software or extensions,
ensuring investment protection and lowering total cost of ownership.
Meru has successfully tested most leading mobile hand-held devices from
Symbol/Motorola and Intermec for performance and interoperability,
providing customers with complete flexibility in their choice of device.
"Meru takes the unpredictability and unreliability out of wireless
networking, giving retailers the peace of mind they demand in today's
transaction environments," Ahlawat said. "Our technology ensures that
up-to-date inventory, tracking, payment and pricing data are always
available, and protected by the highest possible level of security."
The PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a set of comprehensive
requirements for enhancing payment account data security, was developed
in 2005 by the founding members of the PCI Security Standards Council,
including American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB,
MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International. For more information, see
