Robbery suspect arrested

May 25, 2013 (The Dominion Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- U.S. marshals arrested a Glenville man Friday for robbing video gambling parlors in Star City, Fairmont and Quiet Dell in less than a week.

Michael Woodrow Radcliff, 31, is charged with three counts of armed robbery for hold-ups on May 11 at J&J Cafe in Fairmont, on May 13 at Saratoga Hot Spot in Star City, and on May 16 at Hot Spot Lounge in Quiet Dell, criminal complaints said.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Alex Neville said Radcliff was tracked to an apartment complex in Bridgeport and was arrested without incident Friday afternoon.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Harrison County Sheriff 's Department, Deputy C. Diaz obtained information from three sources that identified Radcliff as the Quiet Dell robber.

Diaz then contacted a Marion County detective who said that they also suspected Radcliff in robberies in Marion and Monongalia counties, the complaint said.

In the Star City and Fairmont hold-ups, the robber gave the clerk a note demanding money and suggested that he had a gun in his pocket, criminal complaints said.

In the Quiet Dell hold-up -- the most recent of the three -- the robber gave the clerk a note that said he would shoot her in the head if she didn't give him all of the money and then showed her a firearm, a complaint said.

He stole about $5,758 in the three robberies, complaints said.

Star City Police Chief Vic Propst said the Saratoga Hot Spot clerk said the robber had been in the business the day before to pick up a food order. He left without incident.

Propst said they believe the robber rented a hotel room in the area using some of the money he may have gotten while robbing J&J Cafe in Fairmont two days earlier.

Coincidentally, the suspect is on parole for robbery in Kanawha County, Propst said.

"Some folks don't learn," Propst said. "... Maybe he should try working. It's not that bad." ___ (c)2013 The Dominion Post (Morgantown, W.Va.) Visit The Dominion Post (Morgantown, W.Va.) at www.dominionpost.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
