Roadside bomb kills 7 in Pakistan

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)A roadside bomb targeting police exploded Sunday, killing three police officers, three soldiers and a passer-by in northwest Pakistan.

Police spokesman Daar Ali Khattak said the device was remote-controlled, and Islamic militants were suspected as the culprits, although no one claimed responsibility. The attack happened in the town of Dera Ismail Khan, some 180 miles southwest of the capital, Islamabad.

Britain's ITV network said five people were wounded, including two women.

Thousands of Pakistani troops are concentrated in the North Waziristan tribal region, hunting suspected al-Qaida and Taliban militants, the BBC said.
