RGB Networks Modular Video Processor Inserts Ads into MPEG-4 at TelcoTV

At the TelcoTV Conference & Expo, RGB Networks, a provider of network
video processing, is demonstrating how telecom carriers can use the
company's new Modular Video Processor (MVP) to generate substantial
advertising revenues by inserting local ads into their IPTV services.

At the show, RGB will show its MVP inserting ads into MPEG-4/H.264
video streams, the digital video compression standard increasingly used
by telecom carriers for IPTV deployments.

"Our new MVP combines RGB's proven ad insertion technology with MPEG-4
to give telecom carriers the ability to generate ad revenues that
contribute to the bottom line and dramatically offset the cost of
rolling out IP-based TV," said Sanjay Dhar, RGB's Director of Product
Marketing, Telecom Market. "Telcos increasingly realize the importance
of ad revenues, and with the MVP, they can maximize this opportunity as
they expand their IPTV deployments."

In the demonstration, the MVP will request and receive ads from a C-COR
n5 video and ad server. The MVP will then splice the ads into the
programs at precisely the right time. Inserting ads at the correct time
is vitally important for ensuring that the local ads play in their
entirety and that the preceding and following ads are not interrupted.

Complimenting the accuracy of its insertions, the MVP also utilizes the
company's proven zoned ad insertion capabilities to enable telecom
carriers to deliver ads to specific geographic areas. This ability to
target ads is particularly important to advertisers as subscribers are
less likely to skip the ads if the ads are more relevant and targeted.

Another key feature of the MVP is its support for both MPEG-4/H.264 and
MPEG-2. This is key as many telcos are adopting MPEG-4/H.264 for its
bandwidth efficiency compared to MPEG-2 - enabling up to twice the high
definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) programming without
increasing bandwidth. While many operators have already deployed an
MPEG-2 infrastructure, by supporting both standards, telcos with
existing MPEG-2 deployments can use the MVP to continue delivering
MPEG-2 services as they transition to MPEG-4/H.264.

Carriers also require very high reliability from the equipment in their
networks to ensure uninterrupted service delivery, and as such the MVP
has been designed from the outset to meet this need. Exceptional
reliability and fault-tolerance are enabled by the MVP's NEBS-compliant
chassis design, which incorporates extensive fail-over capabilities and
comprehensive component redundancies to ensure the highest levels of
availability.

RGB will continue to develop the MVP, taking advantage of its modular,
chassis-based architecture to provide advanced capabilities through the
addition of new modules to enable new applications.
