Research and Markets: UK Cosmetic Surgery Market Report 2014

DUBLIN --(Business Wire)--

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/2d6ffd/cosmetic_surgery) has announced the addition of the "Cosmetic Surgery Market Report 2014" report to their offering.

This Market Report examines the UK cosmetic surgery market, which refers to surgery undertaken exclusively to improve appearance, such as a facelift, rhinoplasty, liposuction or a tummy tuck. The report also covers non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

The UK cosmetic surgery industry has flourished over the past 30 years and the market continues to expand despite the ongoing economic hardships and the Government's review into the cosmetic surgery market. Figures from the industry's main trade body the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reveal that the number of cosmetic surgical procedures carried out by its members increased dramatically in 2013.

Despite the recent PIP breast implant scandal, breast augmentatio remains the most popular type of cosmetic surgery; the second-most popular procedure was blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), followed by face and neck lift, breast reduction and rhinoplasty (nose surgery).

The UK market for cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures is estimated to have grown by 8.4% in value terms in 2013. The market is dominated by the non-surgical sector, which made up 33.7% of the total cosmetic surgery market by value in 2013, with the remaining 30.5% accounted for by facial/neck sector, 25.7% by breast and 10.2% by the body sector.

Demand for anti-ageing procedures, such as eyelid surgery, browlifts and face/neck lifts, has increased noticeably in recent years. The increase in these types of procedures is a result of the UK's ageing population and a growing number of women wanting to improve their appearance and stop the signs of ageing through surgery. Interest in non-surgical procedures continues to grow as an increasing number of women want to stop the signs of ageing without surgery and with minimal recovery time. Anti-ageing treatments, such as dermal fillers, Botox and chemical facial peels are the most popular among non-surgical procedures.

This report projects the UK cosmetic surgery market to grow by 6% and 5.8% in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The non-surgical sector is expected to enjoy the fastest growth compared to surgical sectors, such as surgeries on the face and breasts.
