Remote Desktop Control Features Accommodate Security Best Practices

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RIDGELAND, MS, August 28 / MARKET WIRE/ --

As data security and compliance issues
combine with an increase in enterprise mobility and the burgeoning number
of partnerships, service and support desks have a new awareness of data
privacy and integrity. Bomgar, manufacturers of the first remote desktop control
appliance in the industry, sponsored a round table discussion with
security experts to help enterprises mitigate risk. This discussion is now
available as an on-demand webcast.

The discussion, "Risky Business. Is Your Support Center Introducing New
Risks Into Your Business?," is hosted by John Ragsdale, VP of Technology
Research, SSPA/AFSMI. Panelists include Phil Smiley, Director of IT
Security for BMC Software, Phil Demuth, VP of Internal Systems for ITI
Fiserv, and Bomgar's Nathan McNeill, VP of Product Strategy.

The group discusses the complexity of delivering IT and technical support
services in this security-sensitive and technologically demanding
environment and offers advice on best practices. Topics include the
security of data in third party situations, accountability, authentication,
the principle of least privilege, and the audit trail.

Statistics are cited from a recent report regarding data breach incidents
from 2004 though 2007. According to the report, over 40% of such incidents
could have been avoided if the remote access or remote control mechanism
was more auditable or more secured.

Bomgar's remote desktop control appliance, which has been independently
evaluated by Symantec, offers unparalleled security through on-site,
appliance-based deployment, 256-bit AES SSL encryption, logs and video
recordings of virtual support sessions, granular management of support rep
privileges, and the ability to set group policies for managing permissions.

According to McNeill, the security practices of many of the enterprises he
has dealt with put them at risk. "You are responsible for what happens
using your technology and it's impossible to outsource liability," said
McNeill. "What your partners do, what your service providers do and the
technologies they use to support you can hurt you because you are
ultimately responsible. The buck stops with the company that sends out the
earnings reports."

best practices, listen to " Risky
Business." For more information on Bomgar's remote desktop control
appliance and how it can help mitigate risk inherent in IT and help desk support
