Record numbers looking at Internet porn

(UPI Quirks in the News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)A study of online pornography found that one British adult in four downloaded pornographic images from the Internet last year.

The study -- conducted by Nielsen NetRatings for the Independent on Sunday newspaper -- found that 9 million British men used pornographic Web sites in 2005, compared with an estimated 2 million in 2000.

The research disclosed women are among the fastest-growing users of pornography on the Internet -- up 30 percent to 1.4 million in the past 12 months. The figures also show that more than half of all children have encountered pornography on the Internet while looking for something else, the newspaper said.


The newspaper said relationship agencies have reported that as many as 40 percent of couples with problems believe pornography has contributed to their difficulties.
