Radisys and Mavenir Partner on VoLTE Deployments in Europe and the U.S.

HILLSBORO, Ore. --(Business Wire)--

Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, is partnering with Mavenir Systems, a leading provider of software-based networking solutions, on Voice over LTE (News - Alert) (VoLTE) deployments based on Mavenir's mOne® Convergence Platform integrated with Radisys' Software Media Resource Function (MRF). These can both also be deployed in virtualized cloud environments, providing scalability as operators grow their VoLTE subscriber base. Radisys and Mavenir have secured a growing list of VoLTE wins in both the U.S. and Europe, and are actively engaged in multiple trials in both regions. Leading operators are expected to go live with the joint VoLTE solution in the second half of 2013.

"The integration of our mOne® Convergence (News - Alert) Platform with Radisys' MRF has provided the economic and functional differentiation for growing commercial success for our VoLTE and mobile service deployments, including the world's first VoLTE deployment at MetroPCS," said Ian Maclean, vice president, Strategy and Marketing, Mavenir Systems.

Operators that have rolled out LTE networks are turning to VoLTE and Rich Communications Services (RCS) delivering High Definition (HD) voice, Video Ringback Tones (VRBT), Interactive Voice and Video Response (IVVR), Conferencing and other value-added services to win back revenue from over-the-top (OTT) and content providers that have been the early beneficiaries of LTE's increased bandwidth and access speeds. Next-generation IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) architectures, with an MRF processing real-time audio and video media streams, are the underlying foundation supporting these services.

"While 2012 was the year of LTE, 2013 is shaping up to be the year of VoLTE service rollouts," said Phil Kendall, Director of Strategy Analytics' Wireless Operator Strategies program. "South Korea, Japan and the USA will lead the way with VoLTE, though will be joined by a wave of mobile operators globally over the next 24 months as they look to secure and evolve their communications businesses for the next decade. We predict 1.6B LTE connections by end of 2017, and VoLTE and other mobile video services are essential for growing revenues beyond LTE data plans. Standards-based IMS ervice delivery platforms, such as Mavenir's mOne® Convergence Platform and Radisys' MRF, deliver compelling video and voice services that maximize revenue options for operators."

Providing mobile operators with improved economics, scalability and next-generation communications services, the deployment-proven Mavenir mOne® Convergence Platform addresses subscribers' needs in a mobile market that is changing rapidly. Offering voice, video, multimedia and social messaging, the platform performs an integral role in subscriber growth and revenue generation for mobile operators. Its built-in network optimization and open network interfaces bring additional cost reduction to operators, along with flexibility for new business models.

The collaboration of Radisys' Software MRF and Mavenir's mOne® comes at an ideal time, given the growing number of VoLTE trials underway. Radisys' Software MRF can be deployed to run as a virtualized application with other virtualized applications on the same server hardware in a cloud data center, providing scalability as operators grow their VoLTE subscriber base to accommodate increased market demand. It also comes with built-in support for AMR-WB high definition audio codec specified for VoLTE devices, while supporting automatic transcoding with other audio codecs that might be necessary when connecting a VoLTE call to a 3G and PSTN device. In addition, the Software MRF provides operators the necessary flexibility to support small trial deployments all the way up to thousands of endpoints on a single server.

Radisys' Software MRF shares the same capabilities as the rest of the Radisys MRF product family. This provides Mavenir's customers an upgrade path to the powerful MPX-12000 Broadband MRF, based on Radisys' T-Series ATCA platform. The MPX-12000 has been selected and is currently undergoing final interoperability testing for a VoLTE trial with a Tier1 operator in India.

"Enabling operators to generate new revenue through VoLTE, video value-added services, conferencing and more is at the core of the investments we continue to make in our MRF product portfolio," said Amit Agarwal, vice president and general manager, Software and Solutions, Radisys. "Our growing commercial success with our partner Mavenir is a testament that we've made the right investments. To date, Radisys' MRF is participating in seven VoLTE trial deployments and is clearly emerging as the undisputed global market leader of MRF solution for VoLTE and RCS."

Radisys will be showcasing its Media Resource Function solutions in Stand 5G34, Hall 5 at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), February 25-28 in Barcelona. To schedule a meeting with Radisys' wireless infrastructure experts, contact [email protected].
