[November 07, 2008] Qualcomm looks forward to 3G services in India Tweet New Delhi, Nov 07, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- US-based CDMA technology provider Qulacomm Inc today said it is betting big on the upcoming 3G services in the country. "We are in talks with all the operators -- existing and new who may be obtaining spectrum -- to inform them as to where to invest their resources," Qualcomm Inc Chairman Irwin Jacobs said on the sidelines of an event organised by industry body CII. Qualcomm which has a strong 3G portfolio of chips is looking forward to 3G spectrum auction in India to be held in mid-January. Markets like India and China have become more important in the face of markets like US and Europe getting saturated. Slowdown caused Qualcomm to report a 22 per cent drop in profit in the quarter ended in September. "The company will be very active in this part of the globe", he said. The chip-maker would continue to develop R&D activities despite the global slowdown. "We try even when things are slowing down, the company will continue to develop research and development activities because the economy will be coming back worldwide and we want to be prepared for that." As a result of the credit crisis and the economic uncertainty, Qualcomm has lowered its expectations for mobile market growth in 2009.
