Program Saturday to explain new medical alert system

Dogwood Trails Assisted Living will host a program Saturday about a new medical alert system available in the Palestine area.
Mike Foster from Foster's Security and Glenn Conner from Guardian Angel Medical Equipment will present the program from 2 to 4 p.m. in Dogwood Trail's meeting room. Refreshments will be served.
"This is something new we have available in our area and we want to have the opportunity to show people what it can do," Foster said. "We encourage anyone who is interested in a personal emergency response system for themselves or a family member to attend."
MediPendanta"c is a medical alarm/alert system that gives users access to help at the press of a button, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Currently, MediPendanta"c is the only monitored medical alarm on the market that allows the user to speak and listen to the operator directly through the pendant.
Call center operators for MediPendanta"c are certified emergency medical technicians who will stay on the phone with the person until help arrives.
"This is a first for Palestine. Some medical alert systems don't work unless you are within a certain distance of the main unit in the house. They can't talk to you so they just send for an ambulance or the police," Conner said. "With MediPendanta"c, you can talk right into the necklace. For example, this woman who fell by her mailbox was able to use it to tell the operator what was wrong," Conner said. "Time is precious in these situations and it helps knowing exactly what is wrong. Meanwhile, they are talking to someone with paramedic training who is assessing the person while they get them help."
With MediPendanta"c, users communicate directly through the pendant through the push of a button. Users can be up to 600 feet from the base station.
