Prattville's new Web site easier, has more features

PRATTVILLE, Jul 04, 2009 (Montgomery Advertiser - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The city of Prattville is hoping its new Web site will better serve the public.

The new site, www.pratt- villeal.gov, offers more interaction and is easier to use, said Mayor Jim Byard Jr.

"Our Web site is the city's virtual front door," he said. "We want people anywhere in the world to be able to visit the site and find out what they need to know about Prattville. I'm very pleased with the new Web site, it offers many more services than the old site." Revamped under the direction of Teresa Lee, the city's web manager, the site now allows people to pay traffic tickets and apply for building permits online.

The site is a work in progress. In the coming weeks people will also be able to apply for jobs offered by the city online.

The city had an average of about 200,000 hits a month on the old site. The new site will continue to list activities going on in the city along with special events, and will broadcast the city council meetings on a time-delayed basis.

Using the site makes it convenient to find out what's going on, said Mel Bryant, of Prattville.

She was window shopping in downtown Prattville on Friday morning with relatives from out of town.

"We were planning what to do on the Fourth, because I told our relatives that Prattville really puts on a big show for the Fourth of July," she said. "We went to the Web site and it had the times of the parade and activities at the park and when the fireworks will begin (tonight). It makes things easier when all you have to do is hit a few buttons on the computer." Another feature added to the new site is an expanded telephone listing.

"We get calls throughout the day in the mayor's office with people asking what's the number to this school, or how they get in contact with the health department or other agency," he said. "We want the phone listing to be the go to source for numbers and contact information in Prattville and Autauga County.

"Of course we will be listing city departments and numbers, but we will also post county, state and federal numbers and any other numbers that we find the public needs."
