Port of Vancouver announces wind-turbine cargo deals

(Oregonian (Portland, OR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 5--VANCOUVER -- The Port of Vancouver announced this morning that it was adding one wind energy parts cargo-handling customer and extending the contract for another.

Port executive director Larry Paulson said the port was extending its existing shipping contract with Vestas Wind Systems by three years with options to extend the contract further.

The port has been a major importer for Vestas, whose North American headquarters are in Portland, since 2000. In 2006, the port signed a five-year contract to become the exclusive Columbia River importer for Vestas wind turbines.

Paulson also announced at the port's annual meeting called Port: Re:Port, an agreement in principle on a two-year cargo contract with Siemens Energy. The Siemens contract is subject to Siemen's managements approval which is expected next week.

These agreements are expected to provide 235 jobs and $20 million in economic value to the community.
