Picowork's CCOS and CCC Put IoT, Big Data within Your Company's Reach

TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As IT infrastructure sizes and data-sharing between connected devices continue to grow, company workflows in a variety of industries continue to become increasingly digitalized.  In addition to increasing production efficiency, providing competitive business insights, and building brand identity through differentiation, the unprecedented spike in data volumes, otherwise known as Big Data, has significant potential to create further value for corporations.

While businesses are able to understand the significant value of Big Data and the visions brought by the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0, few have been able to harness the technological advancement. This is due to a major obstacle in which different systems cannot securely connect, inter-operate, and interact with each other. As such, the demand for cooperation between IT departments and controls engineers continue to exist.

"IoT and Industry 4.0 is made possible and grows through collaboration. Therefore, the key to capitalizing on Big Data depends on the establishment of better horizontal communications, both between machines and humans," stated Jun-Hsiao Lin, the vice-president and Chief Technology Officer at Picowork.

As illustrated by industry research, majority of businesses and individuals continue to rely on platforms and application programs from third-party providers to communicate andcollaborate. Only a few businesses would have the necessary resources required in the development of their own apps.

"Businesses are unable to access the Big Data generated from the external applications as the ownership of the data remains in the hands of the providers. Even if the businesses can somehow obtain the data, there might still be layers of challenges involved with utilizing the information due to compatibility issues arising from the lack of standardization," said Lin.

To overcome the major obstacle, Picowork, a Taiwanese cloud tech firm established in 2010, recently launched the Collaborative Cloud Computer (CCC) and Collaborative Cloud Operating System (CCOS). CCC and CCOS were designed to enhance the comprehensive collaboration supply chain and end consumers.

"Achieving a flexible online work environment that encourages collaboration can be easy and cost-efficient," said Benjamin Cheung, the product director at Picowork. Unlike conventional personal computers, CCC can be set up in public or private data servers depending on the preference of the client. CCOS users can easily access and manage resources through their personal computers or even mobile phones.

Within the CCOS, users can create the CoWork, a cross-cloud environment where internal users, external CCC users and non-CCC users can be granted access to share resources and collaborate on projects. While the level of content security and control is set by the CoWork creator, invitees may share content and exchange resources freely depending on the permission granted.

"For businesses, adopting the CCC and CCOS will allow the firm to reap the tremendous benefits from pooled resources without sacrificing security and reliability," Cheung added.

"With the system Picowork created, collaborative data can now be collected in your own cloud.  As the industry moves towards the adoption of the CCC and CCOS, Big Data will eventually no longer be monopolized by the platform and application providers. Instead, it will be available to all participants in the cloud ecosystem," Lin concluded.
