Phoenix Technologies Recover Pro 2004 Software Earns Industry Praise for Reviving Crashed PCs; Unique Solution Runs Even When Windows Won't Boot, Restores PC Functions and Data With a Few Keystrokes

MILPITAS, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 17, 2005 -- Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:PTEC), the industry's foremost developer of firmware for PCs and other digital devices, is seeing positive response to its innovations in the OS-independent software application arena.

With more than 25 years of core system software expertise, Phoenix recognized the need to bring applications that are critical to a system's uptime and security -- such as recovery software -- to the BIOS, or firmware, layer, where they can be instantly accessible, even if Windows is not available. Phoenix Recover Pro(TM) 2004, which is architected for both system builder and end user use, allows the recovery capability to be pre-loaded and always available to a user without the need for extra CDs, DVDs, Internet connections or technical support assistance.

"Users today place great value in trustworthy recovery solutions that guard against critical system failures," said Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates, a technology market intelligence firm. "Phoenix's expertise in securing critical software at the core of personal computers makes Recover Pro a natural extension of the company's development efforts."

At IT ChannelVision(TM) Spring 2005, an event for leading North American resellers, enterprise solution providers and system builders, attendees selected Recover Pro 2004 for a "Best of IT ChannelVision Award(TM)" in the system builder software category.

Recover Pro has recently garnered attention for its unique capabilities from a number of media reviewers as well. Comments include: -0- *T "Let's say I'm glad I received a copy of Recover Pro 2004 from Phoenix Technologies Ltd. of Milpitas, Calif. This invaluable software program is new and works great. In a nutshell, Recover Pro 2004 makes backing up data easy -- without needing removable media -- and it can quickly reset a system to an earlier, precrash, previrus state even if Windows won't boot." Brad Grimes, Government Computer News August 8, 2005 http://www.gcn.com/24_22/executive-technology/36596-1.html "Every user is familiar with the problem: Suddenly your computer is infested with a virus, or a freshly installed application sends your whole operating system to kingdom come. These situations aren't nearly as scary when you have Recover Pro 2004 installed." Tom's Hardware Guide June 20, 2005 http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20050620/index.html "For small to midsize organizations, (Recover Pro) could be a lifesaver. Even for larger enterprises, it could be a very useful tool." Dave Kearns, NetworkWorld May 9, 2005 http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/nt/2005/0509nt1.html *T

About Recover Pro 2004

Viruses, worms and other infections continue to barrage PCs, yet 60 percent of all data still resides on the individual PC as opposed to the network. Additionally, mobile users and small and medium businesses typically don't have access to a dedicated IT staff, and are most susceptible to security breaches and infection.

With Recover Pro, users can automatically back up their PC operating system, applications, user settings and data files and easily recover them in the event of an attack. There is no need for IT support or training or to connect to the Internet for recovery assistance. Because the backup and restore functions are built in to the PC's hard drive as a "pre-OS" application, additional CDs, DVDs or a separate USB device aren't necessary to get back to business. After an attack, users will be guided by an easy graphical user interface that requires just a few keystrokes to restore the PC to its pre-attack condition.

In addition, Recover Pro gives users the flexibility to choose how they would like to set up the incremental and automatic backups. Restore points can be set monthly, weekly, daily or hourly.

Pricing and Availability

The Phoenix Recover Pro family of products is currently available through Phoenix channel partners or online from the Phoenix Technologies web site at www.phoenix.com.
