Over 1.30 lakh packages offered for sale at Kol tea auctionKolkata, Nov 25, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- The total offering during the tea auction last week were slightly lower at 1,30,953 packages comprising 89,901 packages of CTC, 36,402 packages of Orthodox and 6,650 packages of Darjeeling tea. Amid good demand for CTC, liquoring Assam sorts sold at fully firm rates. Medium Assam and secondary teas saw irregularly lower rates in line with quality. Dooars and Cachars followed a similar trend. Major blenders were active besides fair support from Western India on liquoring teas. Some export interest on larger brokens and well-made fannings was also evident but limited interest on the part of other internal dealers. Orthodox offerings also met with good demand. Selected well-made whole leaf sold around last levels. Remainder tended lower. Bolder brokens maintained last levels. Smaller brokens and fannings sold at easier rates. Middle East, CIS were the mainstay of the market. HUL was active with North Indian buyers lent good support. Darjeeling teas met with good demand during the last week's sale. Whole Leaf and brokens were firm to dearer, remainder whole-leaf were steady. Plainer brokens were irregularly lower. Fannings tended easier with the plainer sorts being neglected. Traditional exporters and packeteeers operated. Local dealers were active, while those from the UK were selective.
