Oman : JOINT telecom plan for 250 OMANI villages to launch soon [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 250 remote villages across Oman are expected to be provided with basic telecom services in a period of 2 years through a joint initiative of Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Omantel, and Nawras.

This project is called Telecom Zone and consists of 4 parts. 200 telecom sites will be established to cover unserved villages, including 16 villages in Muscat.

Out of the 200 sites, 80 sites will provide 3G internet services while 120 sites will be used to provide 2G network.

The criteria for choosing the villages include the population of the area and the number of government institutions including healthcare centres and schools.

Obtaining permits for building the sites from various government organisations, including the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs is one of the challenges facing the project.

The Telecom Zone project includes the development of an online form which helps clients choose the telecom package which suits them best. The plan will be introduced in the future.

Another part in the project is a TRA system monitoring the quality of services provided by operators in Oman.

The project will see the implementation of an agreement signed between the TRA and Cisco for the launch of a new Cisco video conferencing solution for hearing impaired Omani citizens.

This new service is available at no cost to users, it will be delivered by volunteers using sign language who will represent different government entities.
