Olmert calls Iran 'a major threat'

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Israeli Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said it is the responsibility of all civilized countries to remove this danger of unconventional weapons in Iran.

Olmert told Time Magazine Sunday, Iran is a major threat to the well-being of Europe and America just as much as it is for the state of Israel.

He promised to go further than his predecessor, Ariel Sharon, had planned in dismantling some West Bank settlements.

When Arik (Sharon) collapsed, Hamas was not in power and the prospect of possible negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority was entirely different. This has changed as a result of Hamas coming to power, Olmert said.

Though the war in Iraq is controversial in the United States, Olmert said, it had had a great and significant impact for Israel and the Middle East.

Olmert also voiced support for President George W. Bush, saying, President Bush will emerge in history as the person who had more courage to change the Middle East than any person before him.
