Oklahoma School Security Institute Tip Line Receives National Award


MarCom Awards recently announced winners for the 2014 international awards competition, recognizing outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals. The Oklahoma School Security Institute (OSSI) Tip Line, found at Tipline.OK.gov, received a Gold Award in the Government Responsive Web Application category. The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm.

"Due to several tragic events across the country, school security has become a high priority, and everyone should be looking for ways to improve the safety and security of the places our children go to learn. This tip line is being provided as a means of reporting such information," said Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security Director, Kim Carter. "I want to congratulate the OSSI team for all their hard work in providing this great service."

Tipline.OK.gov provides a form that is available 24/7 on any computer or mobile device so information can be relayed directly to school administrators and law enforcement. Communication personnel monitor this line so that time sensitive information can be forwarded quickly and effectively to the appropriate authorities for timely intervention.

The OSSI tip line is maintained by the Oklahoma School Security Institute, a division of the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS). It was designed by OKOHS through a partnership between OMES and OK.gov, a subsidiary of the eGovernment firm, NIC.

About the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security

The Oklahoma HomelandSecurity Act outlined OKOHS's strategic objectives which are to prevent a terrorist attack in Oklahoma, reduce Oklahoma's vulnerability to terrorist attack and minimize the damage from and respond to a terrorist attack should one occur. The duties of the office also include developing and implementing a comprehensive statewide homeland security strategy, planning and implementing a statewide response system, administering the homeland security advisory system, coordinating, applying for and distributing federal homeland security grant funds and implement national homeland security plans.

The Oklahoma School Security Institute (OSSI) was created by the Oklahoma State Legislature in the Spring of 2013 and officially became a division of the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) on July 1, 2013.
