'Officer abusing power to be punished' - 'Expat was without Civil ID' [Arab Times (Kuwait)]

(Arab Times (Kuwait) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: Security Information Department confirmed action has been taken against the police officer who was caught on tape abusing his authority and mistreating an expatriate. In a statement, the Interior Ministry said the sector doesn't condone such behavior, and so the officer will be punished according to the rules and regulations and based on the outcome of investigation.

Meanwhile, well-informed security sources said the officer who beat the expatriate at Sabah Al-Salem-according to the video posted on social networking sites, was called for investigation after he returned from an overseas trip. He is said to have admitted giving another police officer the goahead to take pictures of the beatings. He said the expatriate had no civil ID card to prove his identity and he owed a telecommunications company KD 70.

Apparently, the expatriate had valid residency but no Civil ID card. In the meantime, Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior, acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and acting Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khalid has given instructions to send two civilian employees for treatment abroad as they sustained injuries when they got involved in a traffic accident in Jahra on their way to work at Al-Abdali Passport Outlet last Friday.
