Nuclear watchdog checks in on Iran

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)The chief of the United Nations' nuclear regulatory agency arrived in Tehran Thursday to address an international standoff on Iran's nuclear program.

Mohamed ElBaradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency said he will spend the day trying to convince Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment until outstanding issues are clarified, the BBC reported.

I'm also going to discuss how we can bring Iran in line with the request of the international community, he said.

While he is not scheduled to meet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the leader spoke defiantly before ElBaradei's arrival of Iran's right to have a nuclear program, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Our answer to those who are angry about Iran obtaining the full nuclear cycle is one phrase -- we say: Be angry and die of this anger, Ahmadinejad said.

ElBaradei is to report back to the U.N. Security Council at the end of this month on whether Tehran is complying with its demand to stop all enrichment activity by April 28 or face possible sanctions.
