NTelos considering S.C. site for regional offices [Charleston Daily Mail, W.Va.]

(Charleston Daily Mail (WV) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 13--CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- NTelos is looking for property in South Charleston to locate a regional office for its wire line business, said company spokesman Mike Minnis.

Bob Anderson, South Charleston's business recruiter, said Tuesday that an nTelos representative called him Monday.

"They want two or three acres," Anderson said. "They want to build an office building for 120 people. I put them in contact with FMC Corp.'s real estate representative to see about FMC's property near Rite Aid." "We are definitely looking at the possibilities of what might be available," Minnis, the nTelos spokesman, confirmed.

NTelos is in the process of splitting into two separate entities -- the wire line business and the wireless business.

The office would be for the wire line business. "The corporate headquarters will remain in Waynesboro, Va.," Minnis said. "This would be our regional office for the state of West Virginia.

"We realize the West Virginia market is tremendously important to us," Minnis said. "It is important to have a strong presence there. So we're absolutely looking not only to keep our foundation there, but to build upon it.

"Unfortunately, other than to say, 'Yes, we've made inquiries and are looking at things,' I don't really have anything more at this point until we get information back that we've made inquiries about." NTelos acquired FiberNet from One Communications Corp. for $170 million in December, creating the second-largest telecommunications company in West Virginia. NTelos has about 400 employees in West Virginia.

NTelos has a switch in a building on Summers Street. The company inherited offices on Leon Sullivan Way and at the foot of the Yeager Airport hill when it bought FiberNet.
