n.runs Creates Security and Efficiency for Anti-Virus Software
OBERURSEL, Germany --(Business Wire)-- n.runs AG, an independent consulting company and solutions developer, rounds out with its Application Protection System - Anti-Virus (aps-AV) the IT security infrastructure within companies, and makes them efficient. The specifically developed, scaleable solution can accommodate an unlimited number of AV engines, and secures the entire e-mail and anti-virus infrastructure against attacks from the outside. In addition, as a result of centralization, it offers advantages such as high availability and system stability, along with a savings of resources and costs. With that, this product is ideally suited to companies and organizations with a high need for security.
In addition to classic Malware attacks via e-mail, a new type of threat has become established; its attack target is the anti-virus solution. Weak spots indicated by every anti-virus product enable attackers to run i.e., any destructive and view all e-mail communications - or make the anti-virus software crash and with that, initiate a failure in the entire e-mail infrastructure. In this process, the protection provided by the anti-virus solution can be bypassed completely, and viruses or other destructive code can be delivered to the end user.
Centralized security saves expense, effort and resources
In order to effectively counteract this complex problem, n.runs has launched the solution aps-AV. The multiple scanning increases the recognition rate and the protection against "Malware", while the fire-walling of the AV software also effectively protects e-mail servers and operating systems against attacks from the. In this process, a three-tiered maximum-security architecture - which was designed based on a BSL (Biosafety Level) Class 4 virus lab with the attendant control/verification, sealing and destruction mechanisms - is used. At the same time, the servers' performance capacity is increased, and the administration of the anti-virus engines and resources is simplified.
In this process, a material advantage is the possibility of centralization. This means that the data to be verified are no longer administered de-centrally, but instead in the middle of the secured aps-AV environment. In this process, de-central and central concepts can be combined. This aspect of development eases the strain on anti-virus licensing and personnel resources, since the administration effort for the installation and management of several anti-virus products is no longer and issue. Also, aps-AV can receive other data in addition to e-mail, which enables it to connect ideally to SAN, file servers, Web servers and many other hardware applications. aps-AV also offers the advantage of functioning without its own single point of failure - which, in turn, reduces the internal administration effort. The solution is scaleable and "grows" along with the company's respective demands - and all this without requiring material restructuring and an additional expenditure of time.
An overview of the most important features:
- Centralized multiple scanning and virus protection
- Central administration of several anti-virus engines
- TCO reduction (reduction in hardware costs and electricity consumption, computer-lab space, cooling)
- Option to support Legacy systems which developers of anti-virus solutions do not support
- Uniform anti-virus policy for heterogeneous environments
- Group policy for anti-virus scanning (5 engines for Group 1, 2 engines for Group 2)
