NRG Bridges Tradition and Innovation at 2015 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™

NRG Energy, Inc. will once again energize the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ ("Rodeo"), the world's largest livestock show and most innovative rodeo. This year, the NRG family is proud to feature sustainability upgrades, personal power solutions, home services offerings, contests to recognize local students, an on-site "geocaching" attraction and an electricity plan offering a new pair of Justin Boots®.

Visitors to the Rodeo will see first-hand NRG's commitment to energy innovation and conservation, via such elements as:

  • Power On The Go: For those looking to charge their mobile phones without missing any of the roping, riding or racing, NRG Portable Power will have a network of six Portable Power kiosks and seven NRG Street Charge® stations that provide power and charging solutions to customers on-the-go and away from outlets.
  • Sustainability: For folks who have not visited NRG Park since last year's Rodeo, they'll get to see new LED lighting in NRG Stadium™, which will illuminate all events and concerts while drawing 60 percent less energy than the venue's previous lighting.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: Those driving to the Rodeo in an electric vehicle can take advantage of the six NRG eVgo® charging stations installed at the corner of Kirby and Murworth.
  • Home Security and Automation: These new offerings will be demonstrated on-site and feature a variety of home protection and energy conservation products and services that can be controlled remotely via mobile apps.

"As a native Houstonian, Rodeo season is one of my favorite times of the year and I am excited to share these new energy solutions with Rodeo-goers so they can personally experience how we can help power their homes and their lives," said Elizabeth Killinger, President of NRG Retail and Reliant. "Along with showcasing our growing suite of customer offerings, Reliant and NRG always look forward to the Rodeo as a way to give back to Houston, a city we call home and have served for many years."

Recognizing Local Students

Reliant continues its proud tradition of giving back to the community via student outreach programs:

  • Student Recognition Program: Reliant will recognize kindergarten through 8th grade students from Greater Houston area schools for extraordinary and most improved academic achievement and outstanding citizenship. Students nominated by teachers, principals and parents will have a chance to win tickets to the Fall Out Boy concert on March 8. Two outstanding students will receive VIP tickets and 19 additional students will be awarded suite tickets.
  • Power of Art: This contest features artwork from 26 local elemntary school students, available for viewing at NRG Park. The public will have a chance to vote for their favorite from March 9-April 3. Three winners will receive $1,000 for their school's art supplies, $1,000 toward their district's art supplies and a $100 gift card and plaque to honor their achievement.

Roping in Energy Savings

With the Reliant Rodeo plan, Reliant captures the Rodeo spirit with an offering that includes competitive 12-month pricing, the assurance of 24/7 online and phone service and support and a voucher for a free pair of Justin Boots® for new customers.

NRG Geocaching Adventure

With so much NRG activity at this year's Rodeo, one of the best ways to experience it all is via the NRG Geocaching Adventure, a fun digital scavenger hunt for the community to interact with various NRG brands and learn more about the sustainability efforts of NRG Park, Power On The Go, eVgo and the Reliant Rodeo plan. Players can use their smartphone on the Rodeo grounds to get clues and coordinates to locate the hidden geocodes. Contestants who find all four hidden geocodes to complete the challenge will receive a limited-edition 2015 Rodeo geocoin. Please visit nrg.com/adventure to learn more about this exciting adventure.
