Norges Miljovernforbund: International EMF Conference - Stavanger, Norway, 17th November, 2009Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, UK, Nov 05, 2009 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Norges Miljovernforbund (NMF) will be holding an International EMF Conference at the Clarion Hotel, Stavanger Hall, Stavanger, Norwayon 17thNovember, 2009. The purpose of the conference is to share the expertise from many of the worlds leading international scientific experts on the biological effects of microwave radiation and to develop policy recommendations to find a safer way forward in order to protect public health from exposure to emissions from mobile phones, phone masts, Wi-Fi, DECT phones, WIMAX and other forms of wireless technology. Exposure to electromagnetic radiation has been documented to have major biological effects on living tissue. The exponential increase in the use of wireless technologies is expected to present serious, global public health consequences in the near future according to many doctors and scientists. The scientific facts are generally ignored by the wireless industry and most governments, despite mounting evidence of severe health effects, ranging from heart irregularities, changes in brain function, including memory loss, performance impairment in children, headaches and fatigue, sleep disorders and neurodegenerative conditions, reduction in melatonin secretion, brain tumours and cancers. A team of International scientists, researchers and public health professionals are meeting in Stavangerto present research and discuss new biologically-based exposure standards to be recommended to governments globally. It is hoped that a strategy for protection of public health on this important global issue will emerge from the Stavanger gathering, and the closed door meeting in the days following the conference. The European Parliament voted for a set of changes based on health concerns associated with electromagnetic fields. In a resolution in September 2008 an overwhelming majority of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) note that "the limits on exposure to electromagnetic fields which have been set for the general public are obsolete and do not address the issue of vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, newborn babies and children".
