Nine Keene High students to attend program at St. Paul's SchoolMay 19, 2013 (The Keene Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Nine Keene High School juniors will attend the Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's School in Concord this summer. The five-week program was founded in 1957 to provide academically talented N.H. public and parochial high school students with a challenging academic opportunity. Each student takes one major course of study, which meets 19 hours per week, and all students take a writing workshop that meets four hours a week. Adam Burnett , son of Jayne and Rand Burnett of Westmoreland, will study Astronomy. At Keene High, he is a member of the Quiz Bowl team, the championship Envirothon team, Interact, and plays piano in the Jazz Ensemble. He has taken piano lessons for many years. Eileen Cormier , daughter of Kathleen and Kevin Cormier of Keene, will study Changing the World. At Keene High, she is president of her class, co-captain of the championship Envirothon team, co-captain of the Nordic ski team, a member of the Math team and Interact. She plays oboe in the Nelson Town Band, is a big sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, and is a mentor to young students who participate in the Keene Elementary Band. Emily Haley , daughter of Elizabeth and Robert Haley 3rd of Stoddard, will study Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture. At Keene High, she is a member of Students for a Free Tibet and Destination Imagination. She is a participant in the Keene State College Upward Bound program. Devin Kane , son of Ashton and Larry Kane of Keene, will study Law and Government. At Keene High, he is a Junior Lion, a member of the track and field team, the Frisbee team, and a member of the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Club. He is a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Becky Lebeaux , daughter of Cathy Lebeaux of Keene and Richard Lebeaux of Keene, will study Introduction to Arabic. At Keene High, she is president of the Interact General Assembly, a member of the championship Envirothon team, a member-at-large for the Junior Class Council, and a member of the French Club. Through Interact, she is involved with a number of community service events and has traveled with the club to build homes in El Salvador. Last year, she participated in the French exchange trip. Amanda Livernois , daughter of Deb and Greg Livernois of Chesterfield, will study Molecular Biology. At Keene High, she is captain of the championship Envirothon team, president of the Sierra Club, and a lighting technician for all Keene High Drama Club productions. She is a Junior Lion, and a member of the Ushers Club. She won the Dartmouth Book Award last year. She works part-time at Hannaford supermarket. Karl McDerby , son of Patricia and James McDerby of Spofford, will study Artificial Intelligence. At Keene High, he is a member of the FIRST Robotics team and Interact. He has been named student of the month and has volunteered in community highway cleanups. Peter Murphy , son of Joan and Erik Murphy of Keene, will study Forbidden Fiction. At Keene High, he is vice president of Interact's General Assembly, co-captain of the championship Envirothon team, and a member of the Swimming and Diving team. With Interact, he has traveled to El Salvador to build homes. He is a member of the World Language Honor Society and was nominated for a NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) writing award. Ivy Pepin , daughter of Jennifer and Victor Pepin of Spofford, will study The Quest. At Keene High, she is president of the Interact Junior Class. She traveled with Interact to build houses in El Salvador. She is secretary of the Junior Class Council, a member of Student Council, the Drama Club and Amplitude. She plays in the Brattleboro Music Center's Flute Ensemble, and Keene State College's Flute Choir.
