NexTone Teams With Cavium Networks for Enhanced SBC

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- NexTone(R), a leader in session border controllers and scalable session management solutions for VoIP, multi-media, and IMS network interconnects, announced today it is working with Cavium Networks to embed its OCTEON Processors in NexTone's products. Cavium Networks has supplied NexTone with boards that integrate its OCTEON Multicore MIPS64(R) Processors for use in NexTone's latest version of its Session Border Controller (SBC). Leveraging a carrier-hardened, Linux-based software architecture and standardized hardware components, the NexTone SBC offers service providers a fast, flexible, and fully-upgradeable solution to secure their VoIP and IMS networks. This announcement with Cavium Networks demonstrates the flexibility of NexTone's solution and the ability to upgrade to the fastest hardware available.

Editor's Note: For more information on NexTone's Enhanced SBC, see "NexTone Expands SBC Features and Sets Real-world Performance Benchmarks on Linux-based Platform" announced on March 14, 2007.

With Cavium Networks OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 processor, NexTone is able to double the line-rate for SBC media functions from existing performance of 2 Gbps to 4 Gbps. The Cavium Networks OCTEON Multicore MIPS64-based media engine includes significant troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities. NexTone is now able to bring to its customers the capability to isolate and monitor individual call flows from among tens of thousands of other calls without impacting the overall performance--a process that was previously very difficult.

NexTone achieved a 400 percent increase in development productivity for a carrier-class system design in less than a year using the Cavium Networks OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 processor. The OCTEON processors' standard C, C++ programming language support, standard operating system support such as Linux, and GNU development environment enables NexTone to develop code quickly and add new features in the future to meet customer demands. The OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 processor also enables NexTone to easily integrate third-party tools and software into its enhanced SBC.
