New ABI Research Database Tracks Global RFID Tag IC Shipments in Detail

OYSTER BAY, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- April 27, 2006 -- ABI Research today announced the launch of a new database as part of its RFID Research Service. The RFID Tag IC Market Sizing Database provides aggregated shipment data reported by leading RFID IC manufacturers worldwide. The database, which is updated quarterly and may be searched by subscribers to the Service, segments these shipments by quarter, by frequency, and by standard.

Erik Michielsen, Director of ABI Research's RFID and M2M research practice, describes the new database as representing a strategic step forward. "It provides a fundamental understanding of where the market stands today, and gives us a better understanding of supply and demand dynamics as we forecast the market over the next three to five years."

The database was built in collaboration with leading global silicon manufacturers. "By putting their trust in ABI Research," notes Michielsen, "they helped create a much-needed, extremely detailed body of information focused specifically on the RFID marketplace. Semiconductor industry associations may be able to provide tracking information for chips, but not with this level of detail."

This first iteration of the database reports 2005 shipments. In future, the company intends to expand its scope, and to add data from more IC manufacturers in the Asia-Pacific region.

The RFID Tag IC Market Sizing Database is complementary to the other components of the RFID Research Service: the RFID Forecast Database (examining technologies, applications, and markets through 2011), specialized research reports, Vendor Matrix, ABI Insights, analyst inquiry support, and the regular updates that analyze RFID market developments quarter by quarter.

"Together," adds Michielsen, "they provide our Service clients more agility and insight when making their RFID planning, development and investment decisions. The new product also demonstrates that the RFID Practice is not content to rest on its laurels and its demonstrated success over the past four years: we are aggressively pursuing new products, services and features that meet the needs of our growing customer base."

Founded in 1990 and headquartered in New York, ABI Research maintains global operations supporting annual research programs, intelligence services and market reports in automotive, wireless, semiconductors, broadband, and energy. For information visit www.abiresearch.com, or call +1.516.624.2500.
