[November 25, 2009] Never know when you're going to need a sardine can Tweet Nov 25, 2009 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Ever notice how it's often that quirky, secondary gift that gets the biggest reaction at the holidays? So have we. There's an element of surprise to it, perhaps, or simply a sense of fun. With that in mind, we present a few humble suggestions for little gifts that may give your holiday a lift or a laugh. --Let's begin with the Survival Kit In A Sardine Can , which Restoration Hardware sells for $14 at www.restorationhardware.com. Amazingly, you'll find one of each of the following packed in a sardine can: acetaminophen, adhesive bandage, alcohol prep, antibiotic ointment, book of matches, tea bag, chewing gum, compass, sugar, whistle, salt packet, energy nugget, duct tape, fire starter cube, wire clip, first aid instructions, fish hook, fishing line, note paper, pencil, razor blade, safety pin, signal mirror and a waterproof bag. --Also from Restoration Hardware, and also priced at $14, is the Snowman Kit. Now certainly, anyone can go to the kitchen and find carrots and raisins to outfit a snowman, but this is a chance to give the icy guy a little more class. The kit features carved wood skewers that make perfect snowman eyes, a mouth, buttons, a nose, plus a pipe. The kit also has a knit hat that doubles as a storage bag. --For the weightconscious, tech-savvy folks on your list, you might try the WiFi Body Scale made by the French company, Withings. It sells for $159 at amazon.com. This scale will automatically record your weight, lean and fat mass and calculated body mass index, then send the information straight to your private Internet Web page or iPhone. --Finally, here's an inexpensive gift for pet lovers. Pet Acoustics Inc. of Washington Depot has come up with a Pet Acoustics Application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application provides soothing music for pets and their owners. Anyone with a dog that gets anxious during thunderstorms will understand the value of this. The app is available for $1.99 through iTunes or www. PetAcoustics.com.
