Netherlands agrees to have Taylor judged at territory+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BRUSSELS, March 30_(Kyodo) _ The Netherlands has agreed to host the temporary Sierra Leone Tribunal which will judge over former Liberian President Charles Taylor, a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"The Netherlands agrees when three prerequisites are fulfilled," he said.

"There should be a resolution by the Security Council to have Taylor judged in The Hague. Secondly, Taylor cannot stay on Dutch ground after the end of the process. And thirdly, arrangements should be made with the International Court of Justice to use the courtroom and a prison for Taylor," according to the spokesman.

Charles Taylor was arrested on Wednesday in Nigeria and was handed over to the Special Court of Sierra Leone, a U.N. tribunal to judge over atrocities committed in West Africa.

Between 1989 and 2003, his action caused thousands of deaths and injuries in different countries in the region.

The former warlord will be brought to court on the accusation of crimes against humanity.
