Nepal rebels vow more attacks to disrupt Nepal elections+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)KATHMANDU, Jan. 15_(Kyodo) _ Nepali rebels on Sunday threatened to carry out more raids to disrupt municipal elections slated for next month.

Senior rebel leader Ananta said attacks carried out by the insurgents against police posts on Saturday around the capital "were the first successful rehearsal."

"There will be more storms in the days ahead," he said in a statement to media outlets.

Fourteen police officers were killed in Saturday's attacks.

The Nepali government is set to hold municipal polls in 58 towns on Feb. 8.

Mainstream political parties are campaigning against the elections, saying they are only designed to legitimatize the rule of King Gyanendra, who seized power last year.

Meanwhile, Information and Communications Minister Shrish Shumsher Rana said Sunday the government remains firm in holding the elections.

"The attacks will not deter us," he said.
