NCS Conference Holds June 13
(AllAfrica.com English Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Lagos, May 24, 2006 (This Day/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --The 20th National Conference & Annual General Meeting of the umbrella body of all computer professionals in Nigeria, the Nigeria Computer Society has been scheduled for June 13 to 16 this year at Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
With the theme, "Framework for IT Penetration in Rural Nigeria: Bridging our Digital Divide," the Conference is expected to be well - attended by both local IT professionals and those in the Diaspora.
Already, the Chairman, Local organising Committee of the Conference, Alhaji Tizhe Ibrahim was reported to have said that his Committee has been receiving several enquiries concerning the conference.
The conference is expected to build on the gains of last year's edition which held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The President of the Computer Society, Dr. Chris Nwannenna looks forward to a successful conference. He said: "It is going to be a great time for professionals and other industry stakeholders to rub mind."
Some of the sub-themes that would be explored at the conference are: Empowering rural communities through IT, Evolving a National IT Infrastructure, Restructuring National IT Policy, Professionalism in IT Service Delivery and Public, Private Partnering in IT Delivery.
Others are Developing IT Parks, Framework for Remote/Distance Education through IT, Rural Internet Access: Development and Availability and IT in NEEDS and SEEDS.
Towards the holding of the conference, NCS in December 30, 2005 received abstracts from authors. By February this year, it notified authors of the acceptance of abstract / publication of book of abstracts received by the NCS secretariat.
March 17, 2006 was the deadline for submission of full papers, and the submission of reviewed papers / camera-ready paper was April 14, 2006.
Last May 12, 2006, the Society notified successful presenters of the acceptance of their papers.
This years edition of the conference which was shifted from Nsukka, the initial earmarked venue early enough is being touted as one that would really take the full concentration of participants who would be less distracted than if it had held in any of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Member organisations of NCS include Information Technology Association of Nigeria (ITAN), Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON), Internet Service Providers Association of Nigeria (ISPAN) and the Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS).
NCS partner organisation is the Nigeria Information Technology Professionals in the Americas (NITPA).
